There are no cable ties binding you to your current place of residence. If you wanted to, you could leave the house, get on a plane, a bus, or in a car, and travel anywhere you like. One of the places you might go is Kansas City, Missouri. Though not traditionally considered an international tourist destination, there are dozens of fascinating museums and attractions in Kansas City just sitting there waiting for you to visit. We will introduce you to come of our favorites in the hope that it will provide you with some motivation to broaden your horizons.

National World War I Museum

World War II may be the most popular war in public conscience, but World War I is perhaps the more fascinating. This museum show lets visitors experience the deprivation of sitting in muddy trenches and taking money for jewelry in order to buy food through interactive exhibits and preserved artifacts. This is the only museum of its kind in the United States.

Kansas City Zoo

Children and adults alike find it difficult to resist the lure of animals. With 1,000 animals including kangaroos, elephants, and chimpanzees ranging over 200 acres of replicated rainforest, grassland, and Outback, a visit to the Kansas City Zoo will easily absorb an entire day regardless of how old you are.

Arabia Steamboat Museum

Kansas City and its fellow Southern giants owe their development to the Mississippi River and the steamboats that once acted as floating casinos and transfer conveyors upon it. This museum is dedicated to artifacts recovered from the sunken steamboat Arabia and will take you back in time to the 1880s.

Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art

Art lovers who spend their days printing Toronto postcards will find this museum irresistible. There are over 34,000 pieces of artwork here which span over 5,000 years of human history. Pieces include paintings and sculptures as well as pottery and textiles. There are two elegant restaurants within, so you'll find yourself wanting to stay over for lunch.

The Blue Room/American Jazz Museum

Jazz music originated in the South and if you're a fan, you'll be delighted to know that the Blue Room is one of the top jazz clubs in the world. It's a museum by day where you can view unique artifacts preserved from the golden age of jazz in the 1930s and 40s, and a club featuring many nationally and internationally renowned artists by night.

Worlds of Fun

Enjoy all the fun of a major theme park without the robotic packaging of being part of a national franchise. There are seven roller coasters catering to both thrill seekers and families along with other rides, playhouses, and a Peanuts themed children's area.
