When you've just moved to a new city, you might feel lonely and bored because you don't have any friends yet and you don't know where to go or what to do for fun. You might wish you can go back to your old job at Wedding Catering Toronto. If you're having trouble adjusting to Kansas City, we recommend you check out the events and classes put on by the parks and recreation department. Going to these events will help you get out, meet locals, and see new parts of the city. Here are some of the things you might find on their calendar.

Contests and Events

One of the unique things that the Kansas City parks and recreation department does is hold a photo contest. Called Green Exposures, it offers amateur photographers cash prizes for great photos taken in the city. What a great chance for an architect in Canada to explore the city! There are also lots of events to choose from every week, such as puppet shows, hiking, plays, marathons, outdoor movies, races, derbys, parties, and ethnic festivals.

Classes

Parks and Recreation departments always have new classes and lessons in the works. Taking one will not only open you up to a new skill or hobby, such as golf or crafting your own cloth diaper covers, but it will also introduce you to like minded people who live in your area. Kansas City parks and recreation centers have held classes on painting, cooking, playing sports, arts and crafts, doing taxes, babysitting, gardening, and much more in the past. Check out www.kcmo.org/parks for the latest schedules and to sign up for classes.

Camps

The camps put on by parks and recreation departments are usually summer camps for kids, but sometimes there are skill camps for adults as well. If you have children, sending them to city camp will give them a head start on making friends before the school year begins and help take their minds off of their old life in Canada. Niagara Falls hotels have nothing on learning about bugs, playing soccer with people their own age, or exploring their creativity. And since it's usually day camp rather than sleepaway camp, they don't have to jump in over their heads right away. Contact your local community center to see what's available.

Leagues

If you were an avid sport player or watcher when you went to study English in Toronto, why not use that interest as a way to meet new people? Parks departments usually have recreational leagues for kids, youths, and adults in a variety of sports for the purposes of fun and fitness rather than competition. So consider joining a soccer, baseball, basketball, running, pool, volleyball, swimming, dodgeball, or tennis team.
